A basic piece for busy women

Your go to piece this season will be a blazer. There is no other piece that will add instant chic.

If you are wearing a basic tee, a printed top, denim, or an a-line skirt you will not have to think twice before grabbing this jacket and leaving the house.

To add flair wear your favorite heels, to make it edgy strut the town in comfy boots, and to make a statement wear an eye catching piece of jewelry.

I have searched the best online:

Petites

Halogen Boyfriend Jacket $98 @ Nordstrom

This goes past the hips but this boyfriend jacket is closer to the body and creates a cool casual look.

Pop of Color

Marc by Marc Jacobs $258 @ Shopbop.com

I heart this outfit, the color and cut make this look powerful rather than girly. The punch of color is perfect to add to your neutral look.

Plus Size

Heather Grey Jersey Knit $48 @ Torrid

So comfy and goes with everything. You won't even feel like you are wearing a piece that is tailoring your look.

Flattering Fit, Unique Design Elements

Monrow Twill Ruffle Jacket $201

There is nothing better than a black blazer. But why not carry basic pieces with unique elements to make it your own? If you want to make a statement, this is your piece. It looks great over patterned tops and tames down flowy blouses.

Neutral and Light Weight

Heritage A-Symmetrical Jacket $120 @ Banana Republic

This is light weight and a great casual piece for running around during the day. This can be paired with jeans and your favorite tee.

What to do with a basic dress

Many of us carry basic dresses thinking we will get a lot of use out of them, but surely enough we wear it the same ways or only put it on one season of the year. I found this great basic dress from J Crew and have found a way to make it look like a unique piece.

Take this pale surplus colored strapless, (which, by the way, can be used year round)

Add.....

A herringbone moto zip jacket to add an edgy casual look.

Beth Orduna: Turquoise, Crystal, and metal mesh multi strand necklace $484

Use some jewelry to amp up the look, own the dress. This necklace is literally a piece of art, what a special addition.

Report Signature Shoe: Hariot Platform Sandals $136.50

Make a powerful statement with your shoe of choice.

Sometimes, you must reach for something old and mix it with something new.

The Spring Shoe

Nude. It is a soft, neutral color, yet the design elements to the shoe create a strong touch. Instead of brown try nude this season. It will elongate your legs and update your look.

A Bargain from Payless for $19.99

Ultra Fashion from Nordstrom for $295 by Tracy Reese

The Everyday Sandal from Nordstrom for $99.95 by Franco Sarto

Shop local from A Mano for $156.00 by Corso Como (Brazilian!!)

The art of layering

This look represents Fall 2010 by Diane Von Furstenberg. Yes Spring has hardly begun and I am posting a look for Fall. I tend to get ahead of myself with all the excitement of new combo ideas in fashion.

This look is thrown together and most certainly works. Maybe it is because the economy had our style restricted and cuts too classic and conservative that now we feel the need to reach out and grab everything we own. We have learned to make our pieces work, we have begun to modernize what we already own by adding maybe one new item. But no joke, this look really fits nicely if done right. In Seattle we are always in search for the perfect layering combinations to keep us looking good but at the same time keeping us warm. I think I might have found it :-)

How to pull this off:

1.) Take your spring dress
2.) Add a neutral colored tee
3.) Accessorize it with a belt
4.) Throw on your favorite over sized and most comfortable sweater

"You're always with yourself, so you might as well enjoy the company." - Diane Von Furstenberg
