How to wear a dress more casually

3.1 Phillip Lim ::STYLE TIP:: Take this idea of throwing a sheer cotton sweater over a dress.

Inhabit Boatneck ::STYLE TIP:: Boat necks are very flattering and a great way to show off a little bit of of what you are layering underneath.

Gary Graham ::STYLE TIP:: Dresses that are simple or have floral designs would work great to layer with a sweater, linen, or cotton top.

Dear Tannya Bernadette,

I purchased a dress I absolutely LOVE and would like to wear it more often. It was a but more pricey than most pieces I own.

What suggestions do you have to wear some of my dresses more casually for Spring?

Sincerely,

Stuck with pricey pieces

Stuck with pricey pieces,

First of all, not every formal piece can be converted into a casual piece. But the good news is that some can.

Take a look at the inspiration above by Phillip 3.1 for Spring 2010. Take a dress and add a pullover cardigan.

When you do this you:
1. Get to wear an expensive piece you bought more than once.
2. Look more put together and classy.
3. Wear something you love more often!

Take out your sweaters and dresses and start trying to match them up.

How to dress for a wedding on the beach

Elizabeth and James - If you are in South America,
you need to wear gold! What better than gold at the beach

Rozae Nichols @ Alhambra
This dress is flowy and dreamy, what more
could you ask for?

Dear Tannya,

I have a wedding to go to in Chile during the month of April. It will be warm and on the beach! I am so excited to go but not sure what to wear. I don't want to stand out too much or look dressed down. I have short brown hair and am about 5' 5",26, and am thin. What types of dresses do you recommend?

-Wedding beach bliss

Wedding beach bliss,

I love beach weddings and one in South America will be so beautiful.

Well, to start off I suggest:

-you will need something light weight
-a piece a little bit above the knee
-a nice long seam down it that won't break the line because your short hair and body type will look so flattering with this style, especially on the beach.
-you could go for a light color or a mix of light and dark if you want to look classy
-I also suggest the colors be ones that remind you of the beach such as cremes, blues, and greens
-the shoe SHOULD be open toe, unless you have wide feet and prefer a closed round toed look

Here are a few designers that come to mind:

-Ali Ro: Ali's collection has colorful pieces, have a younger feel to them, and are somewhat trendy.

- Rozae Nichols: Fabulous pieces that are very unique. The merchandise is more flowy, silky, and sophisticated (can be found at Les Amis and Alhambra)

- Abi Ferrin : Her pieces have color and are simply fun (can be found at The Finerie)

2010 New Year Style Solutions

One of Two, @ Sole Food in University village. Comfortable and functional, yet a vibrant color and modern.

Soia & Kyo Brown Houndstouch hooded down Jacket. So warm and cozy. $214 @ bluefly.com

Happy 2010!!

Here are a few fashion solutions to help all of you get through 2010 with a more prepared and stylish you:

1.) Have your outfit picked out the night before. You probably heard this from your mother when you were young but it really does save time and helps you look effortlessly chic. Everyone has had one of those days where you leave and house and realize your shirt is on backwards or later look in the mirror and think, "Why did I pair these two things together?!?!".

2.) If you commute, carry your heels for work in a tote. There's no doubt about it, women feel sexier in heels. Commuting is no excuse! Wear nice boots or flats and take the heels to change into when you get to work :-)Sole Food is located in the University village where there is free parking and great shoes

3.) We live in Seattle. Have a good umbrella, and invest in a nice coat. It is so easy to purchase a Northface but the hunt for a coat that is flattering, keeps you warm, and is original will last you years. The look will make you feel complete and look together. If you don't have time to go searching shop online at Bluefly where they have a huge selection.

4.) If you have had the same hair style and make-up, it may be time for change. Treat yourself and visit Duque + Salon + Spa +Boutique, where they believe "everyone should have a fabulous haircut" and "everyone posses a unique beauty." This change will bring you into a new light as you take charge in 2010 with your career and goals.

5.) Alter your clothes How many pants, tops, and skirts are in your closet that just don't fit right? Instead of purchasing new clothes, get your current pieces fixed and ready to wear. Adam Tailoring and Alterations in Seattle on Jackson Street does a great job for an affordable price. If you want more quality, try A perfect Fit

Tannya,
Can you give me ideas of how to make a summer tunic work for Winter time? I'm trying to work with as much of my closet as I can!
Thanks,
Recycling Fashion

Dear Recycling Fashion,
Reusing some pieces into fall and winter is a smart way to go. Try layering, belting, using tights under skirts, tucking long tops into a pencil skirt, using leggings and boots. It's all about experimenting and seeing what works for you. Above is an example of two looks with the same top.
